Level 2 Class: All done, for now!

3:32 PM
Wow, this level 2 pattern class has been a whirlwind. A wonderful, wild whirlwind.

Day 3:

M & A finished cutting out the pattern pieces in their fabrics for their Alabama Chanin Pattern Company Tees. They pinned the shoulders together on the front and back bodice pieces, and learned how to sew with knit, on a regular machine! They rocked it.

A chose to do raw edge binding on the neckline, sleeves and hem of her shirt, true to the Alabama Chanin pattern style, while M chose to do a more typical binding as a feature neckline and regular hemmed sleeves and bottom hem.

For a great video tutorial on how to do the best knit neckline, check out this one by Melly Sews.

They both picked this lovely knit fabric from Art Gallery Fabrics, by Bari J.

I am so proud of them. It was a lot of work, but once they understood how to piece the fabrics together, the rest came easily.

Each girl also finished a basic square skirt today, for the sake of learning how to make an elastic casing and finish the seam allowances inside a piece of cotton clothing!

It was so hard to say goodbye to both of them today, but I am sure we will stay in touch, and possibly continue their sewing education again in the fall, when I introduce after school weekly classes!
